Itinerary (July 15 - 24, 2018)

  • July 15th : Arrival Day; Welcome Dinner.

  • July 16th:  After breakfast, we're off to the beach!  A short walk to a beautiful coastal view for a morning of painting with instructor Susan Nicholas Gephart.  This part of Brittany is quiet and the beach is usually quite empty.  Beautiful sea grass and wildflowers cover the dunes leading to the beach and massive rock formations provide visual interest at both low and high tides.  After the painting session, help yourself to lunch at the house.  Afternoon is free for continued painting (outdoors or in the studio) or relaxation. The village of Tréflez is an easy bike ride; or, if you yearn for a ride along the beach, there are horses for rent next door.   Group dinner at the house and feedback session for those who wish to participate.

  • July 17th:  After breakfast, a walk through the forest to another amazing coastal view and a morning of instructed painting with Susan!  Self-serve lunch and afternoon free for continued painting (outdoors or in the studio) or relaxation. Group dinner at the house and feedback session for those who wish to participate.

  • July 18th: Today we'll have an instructed session in the seaside port town of Brignogan, where you'll find beautiful cottages and gardens lining the harbor and busy fisherman in brightly colored boats. Self-serve lunch and afternoon free for continued painting (outdoors or in the studio) or relaxation. Group dinner at the house and critique/feedback session for those who wish to participate.

  • July 19th: Break Day.  A ride to and from the port city of Roscoff at scheduled hours today.  Roscoff is full of history! Stop into the old church, where there are some references to the Scottish princess Mary Stuart, who came ashore at age 5, on her way to marry the French King François II.  Or take a ferry out to one of Brittany's most beautiful islands, the Ile-de-Batz.  Lunch is on your own in Roscoff.  Group dinner at the house.  Tours can be arranged for those who would like to venture further afield.  Breakfast and lunches available at the accommodation.  Dinner on your own.

  • July 20th:  After breakfast, we hike to an old chapel for another morning of instruction.  Self-serve lunch and afternoon free for continued painting (outdoors or in the studio) or relaxation. Group dinner at the house and critique/feedback session for those who wish to participate.

  • July 21st:  Today we'll have an instructed session at the extraordinary coastal hamlet of Ménéhan.  The village, full of beautiful little gardens and cottages with thatched roofs, lies low amidst the great boulders that dramatically litter the coastline. The most startling building, a 17th-century coastguard’s cottage with stone roof, sits cunningly disguised between two huge rocks. It went up to spy on the sea in the period when France and England were at war!  Self-serve lunch and afternoon free for continued painting (outdoors or in the studio) or relaxation. Group dinner at the house and critique/feedback session for those who wish to participate.

  • July 22 and 23:  After breakfast, venture out to paint on your own.  Many beautiful sites are a short walk to the chateau (including an old stone house on the bay) or stay in and use the studio to perfect some of your work!  Farewell dinner on the 23rd.

  • July 24th:  Departure Day. After breakfast, transfers to the Roscoff train station.

Accommodations:

Accommodations are a lovely chateau on the coastline, about 30 minutes outside of Roscoff.  The estate is within walking distance of many beautiful sites to paint, including granite coastline, ancient forests, chapels, and beautiful Brittany landscapes.  Photos coming soon!
