Van Gogh in Arles

Sept 24 - Oct 1, 2018

about this trip:

In the fall of 1888, Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin lived together in Arles, France. The result was one of the most astonishing outpourings of masterpieces in history. And then Vincent cut off his ear, setting off a series of dramatic events that would ultimately end in his death just two years later.  In this 7 night workshop, you will stay just steps from the square where Vincent lived with Paul Gauguin. You will paint the same scenes in the exact locations. Instructor Stewart Burgess White will lead you through original texts and memoirs as you follow Vincent and Gauguin's wild ride, and try to capture their passion on canvas! Beginners are welcome! This trip is about inspiring passion, feeding the creative spirit, and finding the artist within.

Itinerary

After your arrival in the historic Roman city of Arles, France and a lovely welcome dinner at a local restaurant, you'll settle into your hotel right in the heart of the old city. Each day, you will paint local scenes in and around the town where Gauguin and Vincent painted together: Alyscamps, Montmajour, the hospital garden, and more. Free day in St Remy where you are encouraged to visit the asylum Vincent was taken to after he cut off his ear.
